Juice Day 40: 10/25

Wow.  I can't believe today is finally the last day of this journey.  I wish I could say that time has flown by, but it definitely did not.  It's been very challenging but also super rewarding.  Nothing great ever comes easy.  It's crazy to think that for the past 40 days, i haven't ate anything...not even a bite of an apple or a carrot.  Just freshly juiced fruits and veggies and the occasional hot tea.

Looking back at the reasons that I did it in the first place, i'm pleased at the results.  I conquered a personal challenge, got SUPER healthy, learned to consciously rely on God, and in the process lost over 30 lbs.  Like I said before, I didn't do it with a weight-loss goal, so I don't know officially how much weight I lost, but i'm curious to weigh myself one last time tomorrow to see where i'm at.  Either way, I can't wait to start working out again and I can't wait until breakfast in the morning!

Thanks to everyone who supported me through this and motivated me!  If you have any questions or want to do something similar feel free to ask me anything.

Less than 2 weeks until i hit my goal, hooray!  I've been contemplating adding on 20 more days for a total of 60 days...but i'll make that decision when the time comes.  Regardless, this experience has been a major blessing!

Today marks the halfway point of my 40 Day Juice fast!

I haven't been posting everyday, because honestly these last 20 days have not gone by very fast.  My friend from England flew in earlier this week and i've been showing him around San Diego.  We met out in Barcelona, where life was just about immersing ourselves in the culture, eating good food, and enjoying the crazy night life.  And while we were out there I talked up San Diego as having the best mexican food in the world, so he had high expectations.  As soon as I picked him up from the airport, I apologized, "Dude, you're gonna hate me.  I'm still going to show you the city, take you out to the best food in town, and go out with you at night...but i'm not eating or drinking the WHOLE time you're here."

He's had no problem with it, but it's definitely been a challenge for me.  So far i've taken him to In-N-Out, Lolita's, Wahoo's, Las Cuatro Milpas, and some other taco shops.  I made sure to fill up on juice before taking him to any of those places though, haha!

So anyways, 20 days is significant to me because this whole time i've been counting up (day 1, day 2, day 3, etc...).  Now I can start counting down!  For some reason, in my mind, that makes it a lot easier.  I'm looking forward to the next half of this experience and will make sure to keep this updated if anything cool happens.

Juice Recipe of the Day:

  • Whole Pineapple (trimmed)
  • Bag of Baby Spinach
  • A few stalks of Celery

So i've officially been doing this juice fast for 2 weeks now!  It feels like longer than that, but at the same time it has been a great experience so far.  I stopped writing posts everyday because:

  1. Some juicing days are just boring.
  2. Counting down the days feels like torture.  It's like running for me; if I think about what i'm doing and how far i'm going the whole time, I get in my own head and make it that much more difficult for myself.  But when I just listen to music and enjoy everything around me, I feel like I can run forever.
Still the most difficult part of this whole thing is the lack of social life.  You never realize how much life revolves around food and drinks until you no longer can participate.  "Breaking Bread" literally means the act of breaking bread or in other words sharing a meal with those close to you.  Being left out of that or separating yourself from that is time that you're missing out on fellowship.  I missed out on my little brother's birthday dinner at Phil's BBQ.  And I always have to pass on going out for drinks or just out for the night.  That's tough.

On the flip-side, the most rewarding part of this whole thing so far is using that time to fellowship with God instead.  Being in the Word and in prayer feels much more rewarding to me than going out for the night and getting broiled.  I'm not going to sit here and preach through my blog post, I just wanted to point out that positive aspect of this journey for me.

One funny thing I do and I wonder if anyone who has done this before can relate, but when I start running out of produce, I start inventing my own juice recipes with whatever I have left in the fridge.  Haha, I haven't done anything too crazy yet, but i'm sure over the next 4 weeks I'll come up with some crazy concoction.

Juice Recipe of the Day: "Need to Go Grocery Shopping Breakfast Juice"
  • 1 Whole Pineapple (trimmed)
  • Bunch of Spinach
  • Celery (as much as you need to fill up the rest of your pitcher)

Juice Day 9: 9/24

I can't wait to start working out again.  Tomorrow I find out if my elbow is actually broke or not and what it's going to take for me to get better.  Hopefully not a full cast...

After tomorrow i'll be past day 10, which is my first goal of the bigger goal of 40 days.  Hopefully it flies by after that, but I really am enjoying this challenge and growth.

Juicing Recipe of the Day:

  • 6 Kale Leaves
  • 1/4 Pineapple
  • 2 cups Spinach
  • 1/2 Cucumber
  • 4 Stalks of Celery

Nothing special about today.  I added unflavored whey protein to the mix, just to make sure i'm getting enough of that.  Oh yeah, so I didn't weight myself before this whole thing because I knew I was going to lose weight and I didn't want it to be just about that, but I knew I was somewhere between 190-195.  I weighed myself today and I was at 178!  Crazy.  The scale could be off though.

Juicing Recipe of the Day: "Just Used What I Had Left"

  • Granny Smith Apples
  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Cucumber
