The Aliens Adbucted My Hip!

I just want to go on the record and say that the laziest exercise/machine at the gym is for sure the Hip Abductor Machine. I've felt this way for a long time. You just sit down and open and close your legs repeatedly. i don't know, it just annoys me to see girls use it for like 30 mins straight...and funny to see a guy on it. there's got to be a better exercise that works those muscles and others at the same time.

...a close second would have to be the ab bench thingy. you know what i'm talking about, the one with the handles and neck pad that moves up and down. it's not that the exercise itself is lazy, its more the people who do 5 crunches and then lay there for 5 mins talking to their friend.

(Best part of this post is the title.)

Update: Just googled, "hip abduction machine is the worst." and found this...

The Seated Hip Abductor Machine

"The myth: This machine is the best way to work your out thighs, including your glutes.

The truth: Because you’re seated, it trains a movement that has no functional use. And if done with excessive weight and jerky technique, it can put undue pressure on your spine.

The alternative: Work the same muscles, but while standing. Simply loop a resistance band around both legs, and position the band just below your knees. Now take small steps to your left for 20 feet. Then side-step back to your right for 20 feet. That’s one set. This is much harder than it sounds, but you can do it anywhere, and it’s also a great warmup for any sport."

My New Kelly Ripa

So, I used to have a pretty big celebrity crush on Kelly Ripa when she first started on Live with Regis and Kelly back in 2001. Obviously I thought she was really pretty, but what set her apart from the rest was that she would actually make me laugh. And not just every once in awhile, but regularly make me laugh.

But those days are long gone. And really its for 2 reasons:

#1- Kelly has gotten a little too skinny, she looks kinda buff, and I just don't find her as attractive now.
#2- I rarely watch the show. Mainly because of when it is on, but it also probably has a lot to do with reason #1.
Early 2000's
2009

These days I've found someone new. And I wouldn't even really call her a celeb yet, but I feel like she is well on her way to being one. Well actually, I guess she is pretty well known...i just googled her and i typed in "michel" and her name was the 4th option down, right below Michelle Obama. Her name is Michelle Beadle and she is a co-host on ESPN's SportsNation, alongside Colin Cowherd. The show hasn't even been around all that long, but its already one of my favorites on ESPN, and it has a lot to do with Michelle. She is just so witty and you can tell that the responses she gives aren't scripted at all. As far as looks go, i definitely think she is pretty, but not really my type. But the fact that she can hang when it comes to sports, she's intelligent, and can make me laugh easily- makes her so much more attractive to me...and my new Kelly Ripa.

Writing this particular blog entry has really made it clear to me that sense of humor and intelligence is really high up there for me, when it comes to what I am looking for in a girl.

And this concludes this very important update.

USC vs Washington (56- 0)

I never thought a game where so many points were scored could get boring. USC could have easily put up 100 against this sorry team.

On another note: When the hell did they ban alcohol from college football games? All that does is promote binge drinking. People are flamebroiled before kickoff, rather then drunkenness spread out through the entire game. I swear walking around outside of the coliseum reminded me of trips to Vegas or Cabo. I knew that in those places you could cruise around public with booze, but I had no idea that you could get publicly plastered in the heart of LA surrounded by 5-0...maybe it was just an exception because it was homecoming.

Opening Night!

I am so glad the NBA Season started today!

I look forward to a season that ends in the Los Angeles Lakers bringing the Larry O'Brien NBA Championship Trophy back to Cali! Our team is seriously stacked this year and I wouldn't be surprised if they become the first team in NBA history to go undefeated. The lakers bench would be a competitive team as starters in the league...that's how good we are. Oh man, I love it.
Last night, when I was playing ball at 24 Hour some guy asked me if I was a Lakers fan. My reply was, "I was born down the street from the Great Western Forum. I bleed purple and gold. What do you think?" And he actually said that he pities me...what, why!? When I asked who his team was and heard the Clippers come out of his mouth, all I could do was laugh and walk away. And then I thought of Sisson being a Clippers fan, and since he wasn't present at the moment, in my mind i laughed at him and walked away too. psh!
It's so odd to me that the one major, organized sport I didn't play growing up arguably is my favorite sport to play and watch now. hmm...

Tim Brown would like to help Al Davis be less Al Davis-y

Tim Brown believes the Raiders can be good again -- wait, don't call him crazy yet. He thinks the Raiders can be good if Al Davis lets someone else make some decisions.

Brown let it be known yesterday in a radio interview with KHTK 1140 that he'd be willing to help Al out. Via the Raiders Blog at the Sacramento Bee:

"This is a place that can be turned around very easily," Brown said. "As much as people love Al, there's going to have to be somebody else there, I believe."

"As much as you can defend them certainly there are certain things that are indefensible," Brown said. "...Right now the perception of the Raiders is not good and that's what's so bad because it is a great organization. It's done great things in the NFL and for people to be anyway thinking the Raiders are just a laughing stock of the league, it hurts me. It really hurts me to the core. I really wish there was something I could do on a day-to-day basis to help that situation out."

Admirable, but not at all surprising from Tim Brown, who, despite being a Raider, was a class act throughout his career. It's good to see ex-players feel that kind of loyalty to an organization. I hope Davis does give him a chance to lend his expertise.

Along those same loyalty lines, Brown also had some stinging comments about former Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon, who recently called the Raiders organization "dysfunctional." From the Raiders Blog again:

Brown said if not for his intervening at times, Gannon would have had to fight his own teammates because of his attitude toward the organization.

"Gannon knows he came there with that 'I hate the Raiders' type mentality," Brown said. "He came in with that and showed that to all the players. And Gannon wasn't a very well- liked player his whole time with the Raiders. In fact he was downright hated."

So we can assume then that Rich Gannon will not be helping out with turning the Raiders around? Gotcha.

Lane Kiffin: Youngest NFL head coach ever to be hired. Youngest NFL head coach ever to be fired.

Kiffin got the news in a phone call. In announcing the move, the team issued a two-sentence statement:

"Lane Kiffin has been released as head coach of the Oakland Raiders for cause. The Raiders will address the media at 2 p.m. this afternoon at the team's permanent facility in Alameda."

Seriously!? That's just dirty. Getting fired over the phone is like getting dumped via text message by your girlfriend of over a year. Or since it is a league as prestigious as the NFL, I would even compare it to receiving a call from your newlywed wife informing you that she is looking for someone else and that the divorce papers are in the mail.

Good luck to you Lane. Maybe Al Davis will screw you out of the rest of the $ on your contract and you can move on to be a successful coach somewhere else too, just like he did with Shanahan 20 years ago.

I'm just so happy Amare is one of my Keepers...

My Bittersweet Weekend

I'm in 3 different fantasy football leagues...and after 2 weeks in the books, I still haven't won a game. This has never happened to me before. What the hell is going on? But still, I am keeping positive and I know my teams will start playing like they should.

On a better note, The Raiders won!!! 23-8 over Kansas City

The best part was watching McFadden and Bush tear it up. The worst part was knowing McFadden was on Barney's squad. Even though it was the Chiefs, a win is still a win--and the Raiders are in 2nd place in the AFC West...I can't remember the last time I could say that. Holla!

I think it would be hilarious if Chad Ocho Cinco gets traded to another team and can't wear the number 85 because a veteran on the team already wears it. haha!
