Kiffin got the news in a phone call. In announcing the move, the team issued a two-sentence statement:

"Lane Kiffin has been released as head coach of the Oakland Raiders for cause. The Raiders will address the media at 2 p.m. this afternoon at the team's permanent facility in Alameda."

Seriously!? That's just dirty. Getting fired over the phone is like getting dumped via text message by your girlfriend of over a year. Or since it is a league as prestigious as the NFL, I would even compare it to receiving a call from your newlywed wife informing you that she is looking for someone else and that the divorce papers are in the mail.

Good luck to you Lane. Maybe Al Davis will screw you out of the rest of the $ on your contract and you can move on to be a successful coach somewhere else too, just like he did with Shanahan 20 years ago.
